So ... now I'm eating my words. I don't like Halloween. That's right ... I said it. I just don't like it. I enjoy seeing all the kids coming to the door in their costumes ... especially the littlest ones who can't believe that people are putting candy in their bags. ...but that's all I enjoy about it.
That being said, I try and put on a brave face for Cameron who loves the night as much as I used to. He wants to make a haunted garage, decorate the house, buy a fog machine, carve a million pumpkins, and wear the scariest costume. He's got the energy for the night that I don't have anymore.
He did a great job in carving the pumpkin. Apparantly there must have been something going around the neighbourhood because there were a few pumpkins who were vomitting that night.
He dragged to decoration box out and managed to get a few out. After coming back from trick-or-treating he was hiding in the garage behind the big skeleton face, and was jumping out at the bigger kids. I think he managed to scare a few.
Next year I really should try and muster up the energy to go all out and decorate with him!
I've always liked Halloween.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed taking the boys out, even in Winnipeg when trick-or-treating required the wearing of a parka underneath the extra-large costume (purchased knowing that it would have to encase a child + parka). Dave and I would alternate the escort and door-answering duties each year. I think we liked both equally well.
Unfortunately, we've been so busy this fall that we didn't get a pumpkin or decorate. :( In fact, I barely remembered to get candy for the trick or treaters on my way home from work! Alas, the shelves were nearly bare, but I found a few bags of Hershey Kisses. As it turned out, we only had a handful of trick-or-treaters this year. I hope we get more next year. I hope we decorate and buy good candy too. :)
One of my favorite pictures I have is of Cameron and Jason carving a pumpkin on our back deck the year before we moved out west. Cameron was so excited to be cariving the pumpkin with Jason. I'll have to try and find where I put that picture and post it.
ReplyDeleteI still enjoy Halloween. One thing I like is how parents and children go out together around the neighbourhood. People are socializing with each other - something that often does not happen any more. I must admit, though, that I liked it better when we were kids - creating our own costumes and not going out and buying a ready-made costume.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that teaching children the week of Halloween is a challenge; however I have learned through the years that it is what it is and not to have high expectations for accomplishing much in class in the way of curriculum.
I love autumn and all the celebrations that come with it!
I'm glad Cameron got into the spirit and enjoyed himself.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really do much for Halloween, but my boys LOVED it this year. They helped with the pumpkin-carving for the first time, and they were pretty excited to go out trick or treating. Bad mom here though... I didn't take too many pictures, and none of them turned out particularly well. Oh well... *sigh*
I like Halloween and I like seeing little kids in their costume and such but I don't like all that needs to be done to get there, particularly this year since I was soooo busy at work.

Right now I'm thinking that I'll probably give out candies long after the girls don't do Halloween anymore, but looks like I might be in for a surprise in a few years time! LOL
Halloween can be a really fun time, if you put the effort in. I didn't put as much effort into it this year. :(
