Welcome to a day in my life. I can't guarantee that this will be an exciting read for anyone. My life is filled with all the mundane activities of a stay-at-home-mom just trying to raise her three sons to be the best men they can be.

Getting ready for back-to-school

Today was registration day for Spencer for high school. (I can't believe that he's old enough for high school already!) Tomorrow is Matt's turn, although with him I can just send him in to do it himself as he's been through it a couple of times already. It ended up being a very expensive day as afterwards I took Spencer and Cameron out for school supplies and clothes. Wow! Did I drop a bundle!

For registration for Spencer's school:
$77.00 for the registration package (which is registration fee, yearbook, agenda, and lock for locker.)
$26 for photos (that's right! they did school photos today!)

Then we hit Walmart:
1 new backpack
2 binders
5 packages of lined paper
2 calculators
1 math set
pencil crayons
1 package of erasers
1 pencil sharpener
3 paper correction tapes
2 glue sticks
1 package of blue pens
1 package of red pens
1 pencil case
package of mechanical pencils
1 dictionary
1 package of highlighters
1 pair of sissors
washable markers

Walmart total 109.21

Then it was on to Old Navy for much needed pants
6 prs of pants (for three boys)
2 track jackets
1 jersy
1 T Shirt (on sale for only $3!)
1 vest that he just had to have!

Old Navy Total $199.26 (it must be because of the tax!)

Then we finished off the day with a quick stop into Grand and Toy
3 file thingys made for backpacks (this is in effort to keep the loose papers under control ... wishful thinking I know)
1 combination lock
3 rulers (can you believe that Walmart had run out?)

Grand and Toy total $34.69

OK all you quick math minded people. I know you've already added all this up as you went along, but I had to go and get a calculator. Ready??

The Grand total for today was: $446.16 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

...and tomorrow I have to register Matthew!

I actually have been scrapbooking lately. I've taken my stuff to the trailer and so when I've got nothing to do, I can pull it out. These are two of the layouts recently done:

This was a layout I did for a sketch challenge. It was fun to do a girly layout for a change. These pictures were when a group of my scrapbooking friends went to visit another friend who had just opened a stamping store.

These are pictures of Cameron that I took during a baseball practise. I don't know if you can tell, but there is a definate difference in his enthusiasm for the game when he is up to bat, to when he is fielding.

Holy man, that was an expensive day of shopping and such! Good thing you only have three kids! LOL

Hey, I love your latest LOs. Your baseball photos are fabulous, and the girly-colours are fun... I'm in the same boat as you, hardly ever getting to scrap with feminine papers. Great job!

  3. I guess we'll have to bite the bullet and get school supplies for Joshua soon. I hope he still has some stuff left over from last year (yeah, right - what have I been smoking?).

  4. One of the back to school supplies we have to get for Josh is $138 for Josh's marching band uniform. This year the uniform is a pro-stock uniform from the late 1930s and early 1940s

  5. Believe it or not, that is all something I really miss....the rush and excitment of back to school. When I was in that mode, I used to think, "I can't wait "til these expenses are over, then I'll actually have some cash to spend on myself". As Evie says.....HA, What was I smokin?

  6. It always amazes me the stuff kids bring to school on the first day of school. It's a wonder they can carry it all and don't break their backs... AND... the only thing I asked them to bring was a box of kleenex for their runny noses!

  7. Cathy, I know you and I have talked about this before. There is a big difference between the Peel Board and the Halton Board as to what the kids are required to bring. I remember your eyes popping out when you saw the list. Myself, I would rather pay the school an extra fee and have it all provided for.

  8. Gayle and I read with great interest about the cost of school preparations. It is expensive to prepare our kids for life. It is something that I like belly ache about. In the paper today it spoke about a family of four and the two thousand dollars in school fees it costs to have them in the system. Next year, we will have all four of our kids integrated into the system - O man!!!
It is possible to apply to the board for a cut in the fees if it is a hardship - but that means a lot of swallowing of pride. That is something we are not prepared to do. It is hard to believe we live in the wealthiest province in the country.
