Day 7 - St. Maartin
St. Maartin was my favorite stop on this itinerary. It's such a pretty Island!
We knew exactly what we wanted to do while we were here. We took the Rhino Rider excursion. The Rhino Riders are like a cross between a jet-ski and a dingy. Most of them are two-seaters, but they had a three-seater that we were able to take and so it was more like a small boat. Still, it was fast, and it was fun!
The excursion was about three or four hours. We left the marina, and motored up the coast to the French side of the Island where we stropped for a swim and snorkle. It was a beautiful day and the best way to end our cruise.
That night we had our last dinner in the dining room and with our new friends. We made sure we got some pictures with all of us and our wait staff.
Day 8 - 13
We arrived back in Puerto Rico early the next morning. We were in no rush, so we took our time leaving our cabin and going up for breakfast. Once we left the ship, we grabbed a cab which took us to the Marriot Hotel where we would be staying for the next 5 days. Fortunately, we were able to get into our room right away, so we unpacked, and then spent the rest of the day around the pool, on the beach, and catching up on sleep (ahem, Cameron, who was up all night the night before.)
We enjoyed our 5 days in Puerto Rico. It was a lot more low-keyed and relaxed and a perfect way to finish off our vacation. We did some shopping, we toured Old San Juan some more, and did a lot of relaxing.
On our last night we went on an excursion to the Bioluminescent Bay.
From Amazing Stuff:
"Bioluminescence is the emission of light from an organism.
Fireflies, glow worms and plankton are all bioluminescent. Mosquito Bay in
Vieques, Puerto Rico, is generally considered to be the largest and brightest
bioluminescent bay in the world. Luminescence occurs when micro-organisms,
called dinoflagellates, are disturbed in water leaving a trail of neon blue.
The spectacle is truly amazing."
The trip was a kayak trip through a mangrove, into the bay at night. Whenever the water is disturbed, the water (the organisms in the water) light up for a few seconds. It was so cool! We didn't get any pictures as they recommended you leave your camera behind because it would get wet. So, I've grabbed this video from Youtube to show what it was like ... especially at the end of the video when he puts his hand in the water, swims and when they drop something in the water. (there is no swimming allowed, as swimming is killing off the organisms).
It was the perfect way to end a great vacation!!
You sure had an awesome trip to beautiful places. Your photos below are stunning.
