It appears that I am indeed older than dirt. I rember 18 of these! Oh man! That's scarey. The ones that really brought back some childhood memories were blackjack chewing gum, candy cigarettes, and the wax coke bottles shaped things. I remember me and my siblings going to the candy store and buying all these things. The candy cigarettes were my favorite.
We used to have a milk box in our house. It had a door that opened on the outside and the milk man would come each day and put the fresh milk in bottles into it. There was a door from the inside of the house where we would take it out. More often than not, the milk box was used for us children to climb through to get into the house. Why use the door? That was too easy!
I also remember going out to a family friend's house and they still had a party line. They lived out in the country.
When I was very young, I remember my brother and I playing in our basement and he decided to play with the washing machine wringer and while it was moving he put his hand in. It ended up pulling his whole arm through. My mom, of course, came running. My next memory of that event is seeing them jump into our neighbour's car to speed off to the hospital. He was fine in the end, at least until the next trouble he got himself into ... which was likely only a few days after that.
Such wonderful memories.
I think this is a scrapbook page!
Well, either I'm younger than you or I'm already going senile: I only remembered 15 of them. That being the case, I'm not older than dirt and I don't have to tell my age either.
ReplyDeleteScary stuff, I remember 20! I am getting to be ancient! I remember several broken glass milk bottles and Mom getting pretty mad because they wouldn't have been broken if we hadn't climbed through the milk box. Ah, life seemed so simple then.......but then was it really? I don't think I would want to do my laundry with a ringer washer. I like the idea of popping the laundry in the washer, pushing a button and not having to touch it again until it needs to be moved to the dryer.
ReplyDeletePhew! I only remember about 8 or 9 of those...so I am still off the hook! On the upside, the clerk at Body Shop said I didn't look anywhere NEAR my age!
ReplyDeleteI think I got to at least 18...19...20...
ReplyDeleteHere is another one for the list - red wax lips that we chewed like gum. Then there were the wax haronicas... going to the smoke shopo with ten cents and coming home with a small paper bag full of candy and gum.
I also seem to remember the milk box coming in handy for when we were locked out of the house!
Last memory - staying home from high school to do laundrry in the ringer washer when mom had a bad migraine...
Aw, yes, I remember it well (I can hear Maurice Chevalier singing. Now if you can remember the movie you really are older than dirt!)
