Welcome to a day in my life. I can't guarantee that this will be an exciting read for anyone. My life is filled with all the mundane activities of a stay-at-home-mom just trying to raise her three sons to be the best men they can be.

It's a very sad day!

Yes, it's a very sad day in our house. We are all sad that school has started up again. There were a lot of long faces and feet dragging around here this morning, mine included. We had such a wonderful, relaxing summer (well, at least August was anyway) that it was a shame that it had to come to an end.

The boys all seem to like their teachers and their classes. Matt and I had to go in first thing this morning to get his schedule straightened out as it was different from what his SERT had set up for him back in June. When we walked into the school I was gob-smacked by the amount of students lined up in the hallway leading up to the office for registration. I was glad that we went in last week to register. The guidance office was no different! It was packed full of kids trying to change courses. We were able to just breeze right by them and go right into see the SERT.

Cameron seems to like his teacher this year too. I hope she's as good as his teacher was last year.

I spent the day yesterday and today repainting, and reorganizing my scrap space. I can't beleive that I got it all done in two days. I even got the trim painted. It looks so much better. I might actually be able to get some scrapping done now! (no more excuses now!)

Oh! Guess what John bought me!!

Yes, that's right. After fighting it for so long, I'm finally taking the leap into the digital world. I'm a little nervous about it as I really loved working with film. Please tell me it won't take me that long to learn how to use it. I feel confident about taking the pictures, it is everything thing else that goes along with it. I'm also fearful that I won't be getting them printed as much either, and that they will end up staying on the computer and then the computer will crash and I will lose it all. See? This is why I fought the good fight for sooooo long.
Wish me luck!

Wow - you're entering the digital camera world with a bang! Congratulations on your lovely new toy! Now, I think you should use it to take pics of your freshly painted scraproom so you can share them with us here ... lol.

  3. As with any other important stuff on computers - BACK UP YOUR FILES. I frequently burn my photos onto CDs and DVDs. This accomplishes two things. First, I get the files backed up. Second, I can free up hard drive space on my computer.

You may find yourself taking LOTS of photos, since you won't be limited by the number of frames on film. The photos will fill up your hard drive quickly. Figure out a system for organizing your photo files. I do mine by subject: family, floral, people, architecture, etc. Some people do theirs chronologically - a system that didn't work too well for me.

You'll also be able have lots more control over the editing before you print them. That's why I have a hard time using film much anymore - I like all the control I get with digital.

  4. I love digital as I can take more shots and try things I would not have done with film. Enjoy.

Congrats on your new toy! :D You are going to love it! I've had mine for about 3 years now and I would never go back to film. :D

As for not printing them, you might end up getting less prints but they all will be great ones that you chose to get printed. ;)

And as Evie said, backup is the motto here. I backup my pictures on a dvd every month or after every important event that I would not dare lose the pics of. It only takes a couple of minutes really when you do it regularly.

Congratulations on the new camera! Yay! My advice to you... come up with a system to catalog your photos. Back up to an external hard drive or to DVD as often as possible. Set up a schedule to send a certain number out for printing... 10 per week, minimum... so then you're in the habit. Ummmm... I dunno. I'm sure you'll adapt quickly. :D

P.S. I LOVE my Rebel XTi. I'm sure you'll love yours too.

  8. I can't wait for my digital camers (come on, Santa Don!). I hope that a digital camera does not stop me from using my SLR since there is something magical in trying a technique and having a surprise later.

From a historical perspective - too much editing is not a good thing. So often poorly taken pictures offer a perspective that professional looking photos do not. Editing out unwanted objects or cropping can take away from the photo-at-the-moment feeling. How often have you looked back at an old photo to look past the subject into the background and notice something you had forgotten was there?

As well, don;t just back up but also process your pictures since files on a CD will not last forever. Over time the files will be list or damaged.
