Welcome to a day in my life. I can't guarantee that this will be an exciting read for anyone. My life is filled with all the mundane activities of a stay-at-home-mom just trying to raise her three sons to be the best men they can be.

Pink Day

Three days ago I was made aware of a very inspiring story of two boys in Nova Scotia . They overheard a grade nine student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. As a result, they went out and bought some pink shirts themselves and then went home and contacted all their friends to get them to wear pink to school the next day as a show of support for the bullied student. The next day a remarkable thing occured. When the bullied student arrived at school, there was a sea of pink shirts. Everyone had worn a pink shirt to school in a united front against bullying. Wow! It's truly inspiring how a couple of people can make such a huge difference not just to one life, but to inspire the lives of countless people.

This year, in response to this story, Christy Clark, a radio talk show host in BC, encouraged all her listeners to dress in pink on February 27th, as a stand against bullying.

I would have loved to see how many people were wearing pink in BC today.

Myself, I proudly wore pink today. I stand with countless others who say that bullying will not be tolerated any longer. My son has had to endure bullying pretty much all his school life and so I have seen first hand the effect and the scrars that come from this.

Every February 27th I will wear pink.

Evie had is fun thing posted on her blog. You create your own album cover. Above is how mine turned out.

Here's how you do it:

If you have blogger's block, try out this fun meme. The idea is to create an album cover by gathering components from three stops on the Internet.
1 - Go to this Wiki page. The title of the first random article you get is the name of your band.
2 - Go to this quotations page. The last four words of the last quote on the page will be the title of your album.
3 - Go to Flickr. The third picture will be your album art.
Put it all together and you've created your new album cover.

Eclipse and other tidbits

So, did you see the eclipse last night? We had perfect, clear skies last night and it was great for viewing the eclipse. I got my tripod out and tried to take some pics of it. (it must have been quite the site for my neighbours with me out there in my PJs and slippers.) I managed to get some decent shots.

In other news, Stephen (my brother) was here from Calgary for a few short days. He arrived on Monday (on our first Family Day holiday) and came here after his meeting. Cathy and Don and Stephen came here for dinner and we had a great time just visiting.
I've been a scrapping fiend lately. I've joined a challenge to use my stash. I can't shop until I've done so many layouts. It's been motivating me to just get things done and not worry so much about the finished product.
Here's what I've done in the past week:

Valentines Day

OK, I admit it. I'm not a romantic person. I'm not overly sentimental. John is the romantic one in our relationship.

Valentines Day usually passes without too much notice around here ... much to John's dismay. The boys don't get into it either. (I'm sure this will change when they start dating.)

This year John gave me a dozen, beautiful red roses. They are lovely, and I was touched. He always remembers Valentines Day.

However, he was upstaged. When I picked Matt (remember, he's 17) up at school, he handed me a little gift bag that he'd purchased at school that was filled with chocolate. "Happy Valentines Day" he said. I, of course, was touched. I smiled and said "Matthew, you really didn't need to buy me anything." He said "I know. But I thought that you deserved it because you're such a great mom."

Now, that was a great Valentines Day!

Coffee, anyone?

Did you know
-that people who drink coffee are less likely to commit suicide than people who don't
-The average American drinks 3.4 cups of coffee a day
-there are 1,000 different chemicals in a cup of coffee - 26 of them have been tested to see if they cause cancer in lab rats and 13 of them do
-in the 1820s a temperance movement tried to ban coffee - and they almost succeeded
-coffee beans aren't beans, they're fruit pits, making coffee the most consumed fruit in the US
-iron fortified milk turns coffee green
-when coffee first arrived in Europe it was known as Arabian Wine
-the French writer Voltaire drank 70 cups of coffee a day (I wonder how much he slept at night!) -one tsp of liquid nicotine or 1/2 ounce of pure caffeine are considered lethal doses for a 150 pound man.

OK, time for a Timmies!

The end of another week. Semester two is off to a good start. Yay! Everyone loves their teachers and their classes. Yay.

Spencer has a three-hour DYB practise tonight which means one of us will need to try and kill time in North York for three hours. I think I will see if John wants to go see a movie after we drop Spencer off. What else can one do for three hours on a Sunday evening in Toronto?

I know, I know. Pretty boring week around here. ...but trust me ... boring equals good in my house. Boring means things are going well for everyone.

Here's my layouts from this week.

After the Storm

Well, we got slammed again. More snow. I love it. Much to the boys' dissapointment, it stopped over night which meant that the plows were able to get to work. That meant no snow day.

... and there's more on the way in the next few days.

Yesterday was another snow day. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the boys were off anyway as it was a PA day. Have I ever said that I love snow days? LOL! We stayed in all day only taking turns to go out and shovel the driveway. I spread out my scrapping stuff and happily scrapped away while the boys were happy to just lay around. I love days like that. It really is good for the soul.

The snow plows came through a few times during the night and so now there is a mound of very heavy, icy snow piled at the bottom of the driveway. Hopefully I can just plow through it to get the van out, because it's way too heavy for me to do and John is still away. I don't think Matt could do it either.
